Research Data Systems Main/Dev. Assistant

Part-Time Research Data Systems Maint/Develop Research Assist.
 

We are seeking a motivated Master’s or early-stage Ph.D. student (1st–2nd year) from a STEM discipline to assist with the maintenance, development, and enhancement of research data management systems used across our projects. This position offers hands-on experience in data infrastructure, system configuration, and research technology support.


Outstanding candidates may have the opportunity to develop this position into a research-focused project or dissertation topic, especially in areas related to data systems, informatics, and workflow optimization.


Responsibilities:
 

  • Maintain and update research data management systems, including database configurations,
    user permissions, and data workflows.
  • Provide technical and user support for research teams, including troubleshooting, data
    import/export, and process documentation.
  • Develop scripts, reports, or automation tools to improve data collection, quality control, and
    research efficiency.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students on data management best practices.
  • Document procedures, configurations, and system updates for long-term sustainability.
  • Explore opportunities for independent research on system performance, usability, or data
    governance (optional/long-term)

Qualifications Required:

  • Enrollment in a Master’s or Ph.D. program in a STEM field (e.g., Information Technology, Data
    Science, Biomedical Informatics, Computer Science, or related discipline).
  • Basic understanding of databases, programming, or web-based data systems.
  • Familiarity with at least one scripting or programming language (e.g., Python, R, SQL, PHP, JavaScript).
  • Strong problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills

Preferred:

  • Experience with data management platforms or research informatics tools.
  • Interest in data quality, reproducible research, or system design.
  • Experience with Linux environments, APIs, cloud (AWS) environment, or automationframeworks


Position Details:

  • Type: Part-time (student hourly)
  • Hours: Approximately 10–20 hours per week (flexible)
  • Duration: Ongoing, with potential to evolve into a research or dissertation project.
  • Compensation: Commensurate with experience and institutional guidelines.
