Medical Scribe / Assistant / Surgery Scheduler

A reputable Plastic Surgery office is seeking a pro-active, customer service oriented Scribe and Surgical Coordinator.
The ideal candidate is an energetic, enthusiastic go-getter who can work with a wide variety of personalities. This position involves working with both insurance and cosmetic patients on a daily basis. A positive attitude, amazing work ethic, attention to detail, organizational skills and the ability to work well with others is a must! Candidates must be able to work full-time and/ or part time, and have the ability to travel to the practice’s North Charleston office on Monday mornings.

Duties and responsibilities:
Medical Scribe
  • Assists with patient flow through clinic by greeting and rooming patients, scribing and walking patients to appropriate department (front desk, technicians, and patient care coordinators) to complete patient visit
  • Documents patient exams in electronic health record, noting specifically the exam components, diagnoses, treatment plans, orders, and medications
  • Communicates medication orders to pharmacy and/or patient as needed
  • Reviews all chart notes and correspondence daily to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Travels with physician to various sites( N. Charleston -Monday mornings & Mt. Pleasant- Monday afternoon - Friday) to ensure coordinated and effective patient care
  • Participates in Pre-Operative process
  • Performs related duties as assigned to ensure quality patient care
  • Open and willing to try new workflows and ideas and provide encouragement for the provider to try new workflows and ideas
  • Monitors provider schedules and communicate scheduling issues clearly to managers to help understand concerns
  • Remains calm at all times and reports any issues to appropriate levels of management
  • Willingly accepts and completes any other task or requests that manager assigns beyond items specifically listed in job description
  • Pull all necessary information from EHR and input exam findings into patient chart as physician is conducting exam; chart patient complaint additions, physician assessment and plan
  • Knows and inserts billing codes into chart as per physician instruction
  • Ensures detailed and accurate chart documentation to meet ICD-10 requirements
  • Ensures proper coding technique is used, i.e. proper linking of diagnosis to procedure
  • Reviews and edits patient chief complaint
  • Accurately scribes exam details as dictated by provider
Surgery Scheduler
  • Prepare surgical documentation for the office and outpatient center.
  • Act as liaison between the office and the surgery centers.
  • Ensure that all necessary testing is completed prior to surgery.
  • Assist with patient prescriptions for surgery.
  • Call patients with details prior to surgery.
  • Answer patient phone calls.
  • Provide clerical support as requested by the manager.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Previous medical scribing and/ or surgical coordinating experience
  • Strong English written and verbal communication skills (Spanish is a plus)
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology
  • Professional demeanor with a personable attitude
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a high volume environment
