Harvest VISTA Leader- Engagement and Recruitment Coordinator

Are you ready to use your VISTA, AmeriCorps, NCCC, or Peace Corps experience to lead the next generation of food systems leaders? We seek an excellent communicator, a team player and a creative thinker with a passion for social justice and equity to coordinate our national Harvest VISTA Program.

The Harvest VISTA Program places AmeriCorps members at local hunger relief agencies in 4 states (currently WA, MA, GA and UT) where they create systems for produce collection, volunteer recruitment, gleaning and gardening. By design, specific activities vary by location to meet community needs and available resources. Harvest VISTAs develop relationships with local growers, recruit new volunteers, build effective transportation networks and identify necessary resources to make these new programs successful and sustainable.

The successful Harvest VISTA Leader is a detail- and community- oriented mentor with a high desire to learn and take initiative on new projects, as well as adapt to changing program needs and challenges.

This is a stipended AmeriCorps national service position with a comprehensive benefits package (healthcare plan, paid time off, sick time, choice of $6,495 education award or $1,800 cash award at the completion of one year of service, professional development stipend).

Qualifications:
  • Must be 18 years or older and a U.S. resident

  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Self-starter

Desired (not required):
  • At least some food systems knowledge/experience
  • People person, especially over Zoom - comfort with online meeting platforms
  • Basic Excel/Sheets skills
  • Public speaking
  • Facilitation, mentorship or leadership experience
  • Recruitment experience
  • Comfort with WordPress
  • Basic graphic design
  • Curriculum design
  • Data analysis and presentation

Duties:
25%: Community building and cohort engagement. Encourage collaboration, enhance collective knowledge, and help VISTAs respond to project challenges by developing training and professional development.
25%: As recruitment point person, review, improve, and innovate new practices to increase the amount of qualified Harvest VISTA applicants from historically excluded backgrounds, especially applicants of color. 
20%: One-on-one VISTA member support and mentoring. Check in regularly with VISTAs and help them achieve their goals.
15%: Project sustainability and strategic planning. File and archive all materials, support VISTAs in building sustainable projects, and improve existing systems.
15%: Internal program communications and storytelling. Write newsletters, craft social media posts, collect and present data, and communicate with VISTAs and supervisors.
