Research Specialist–I / Image Analyst

We are hiring a Research Specialist-I (RS-I) who will work as an image analyst for NIH-funded patient-oriented neuroimaging research. This RS-I will be under the direct supervision and mentorship of a highly multi-disciplinary team: Dr. Andreana Benitez (a clinical neuropsychologist with expertise in cognitive aging and Alzheimer’s disease), Dr. Jens Jensen (an MRI physicist with expertise in advanced diffusion MRI), and Dr. Andrew Chen (a biostatistician with expertise in imaging statistics). The following are the primary research projects that the RS-I will be involved with analyzing: R01AG054159, R01AG057602, R01AG081237, and R01DC019078.

 

The RS-I will gain considerable experience with acquiring brain MRI data, conducting image quality controls, and implementing image pre-/post-processing, and statistical analysis procedures – all requiring independent coding skills. This position may include career development opportunities for those interested in pursuing a graduate degree in biomedical sciences, health sciences, or a computational field. MUSC is in downtown Charleston, South Carolina, notable for its mild climate, beautiful beaches, top-rated restaurants, rich history, and high quality of life. The position will be for 2 years with the possibility of renewal. A competitive salary will be offered, commensurate with experience.

 

MINUMUM REQUIREMENTS:

· Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or computational field

· Intermediate coding skills (i.e. proficiency with a programming language, such as Python, R, Matlab)

 

EXPECTED RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Data entry and database management

· Image analysis of brain MRI and PET data using various software tools

· Statistical analysis primarily in R

· Acquisition of brain MRI or PET in clinical research studies

 

ADDITIONAL HIGHLY DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Previous research experience

· Previously completed coursework in linear algebra and statistical inference
