I loved everyone I met at KPMG. The company has an incredible culture built around community, diversity and respect.

What I liked
I really liked working as a team. It was always nice to work collaboratively and to have their experience as a resource but still be able to feel pride in your individual work.

Advice
Be prepared to work hard and to learn a lot. You may have your undergraduate degree or even your master's but you quickly learn that you know nothing. Your team is more than willing to teach you, but you have to be willing to ask questions and do the work.

Audit intern
January - March 2019 • Atlanta, GA
What I liked
I was able to work on multiple diverse clients; overtime was allowed so on one client I averaged 65 hour work weeks (which meant I made good money). Also, in long work weeks, food is frequently provided.
What I wish was different
I didn’t like one of my teams because the Senior did not like delegating work, so she would work and the rest of us would look for things to do or read the employee handbook until she found something. I wish I had been able to request a different team at that point.
Advice
Go all in. Sometimes the hours are long and hard, but give it your all when you’re there and process it later.

IT Audit and Assurance Interm
June - August 2019 • Irvine, CA
What I liked
I gained a lot of practical skills that made it easier to see how the academic content I learned was relevant.
What I wish was different
I had no complaints about the internship itself. I wish I had applied for an internship in prior summers.
Advice
Getting and internship might seem nerve-racking and uncomfortable, but getting out of your comfort zone is the only path towards growth. Putting it off will only put you at a disadvantage. It is never too early to attempt to get an internship, and even applying for one after Freshman year is a good idea.

Audit Intern
June - August 2019 • Los Angeles, CA
What I liked
KPMG’s Audit Internship provided me with a great amount of hands-on experience as I was assigned to multiple clients the entire summer. I was able to work in audit engagements and rotate in various industries. One of the best experience as an intern is being able to participate in KPMG’s National Intern Training. You learn so much about your service line and how everything is being applied to the daily work day.
What I wish was different
As an intern, you are always worried about your performance since this is the potential company that you want to work for. With that, I wish I had taken more time to network more than I did.
Advice
For everyone applying or entering an internship, I would strongly encourage you all to be open on what you want and what your goals are. Firms, professionals and recruiters are seeking you out as much as you are trying to fit in their companies. If things aren’t going well, you have to speak up and let them know. I think a lot of students forget that.

If you are planning on going into the accounting profession, work for a company where you feel like you fit into the company culture. One of the main reasons I chose to intern at KPMG over other firms, was that the people made me feel very comfortable and welcome.
