What I liked

Great people and atmosphere. The work was exciting and I felt like I was making an impact.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship was longer so I could get a better feel for how it would be as a long term job.

Advice

Do as much in-house networking as you can and never burn a bridge.

ITAA Intern

June - August 2018 • Irvine, CA

What I liked

The real-world experience and the people I was working with! The internship program at KPMG is amazing!

What I wish was different

I wish it would've had a little bit more structure. I knew the clients I had, but I didn't exactly know which client I'd be working on for one day until a day or two before I went. The sponteneity was fun for the first couple of times, but it got very stressful driving places when you're in an unfamiliar place and you don't know where you're going for work tomorrow but you know you have to be there.

Advice

Be open to any and all feedback. It's super important to be learning and learning to do things correctly! You're going to make mistakes but learn from them the first time and don't keep making them. Also, if you're not making mistakes, you're not learning!

Embark Audit Intern

June - August 2018 • Philadelphia, PA

What I liked

KPMG is a premier workplace. It is innovative, welcoming, and focused on collaboration and structured, continuous learning. It is a great place to see Big Four Accounting first-hand. During my time as an Embark Intern, I found that there is a large network of Alumni within the office that are all willing to help a fellow Explorer.

What I wish was different

Advice

Be open to meeting new people and learning as much as you can about the company culture. It was truly a great experience! A great way to differentiate yourself is to ask some of the firm's employees out to lunch. It's usually covered by the firm and a great way to learn about what the people of the firm are truly about.

Audit Intern

June - August 2018 • Cincinnati, OH

What I liked

I really enjoyed getting to know all of the employees as they helped me through some of the new and difficult tasks. They were always willing to take the time to include you conversations, in meetings, and in any events that were going on within the office. They truly make you feel as a part of the company and that helps to give you confidence to perform to the best of your ability. They always took the extra step to allow you to not only understand the task, but the way that the tasks that you were performing fit into the larger picture.

What I wish was different

I wish that the internship had been a longer. The weeks flew by and there was so much more to see and learn from this company and this internship. It was an amazing opportunity that I simply wish had lasted longer.

Advice

I advise to always get the most out of every situation. If you are sitting in a meeting to take notes, take notice of how everyone is sitting, how they are taking notes, and how they are dressed. If you take time to notice the little details you can begin to understand the little differences that separate the high performers.

Audit Intern

June - August 2018 • Santa Clara, CA

What I liked

There was a strong emphasis of building a close relationship with your teams, so I always felt comfortable and welcomed at work. There was also a strong emphasis on mentorship, so I never felt like I was diving into an abyss with new projects or in planning my future career. That being said, they didn’t hold my hand the whole way through so I had a lot of room to grow and learn as well.

Tax Intern

June - August 2018 • Louisville, KY

What I liked

I liked how I was treated as a full-time associate. I spent a week in Orlando with other KPMG interns from around the country learning everything I would need to be successful, and I was eased into the work upon returning to the office. After being guided through my first assignment, I was given a workload very similar to that of a first-year associate, which I liked. My coworkers were always willing to help with any questions I had and wanted to see me succeed.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been another intern at the office so that I would have had someone to ask more intern-specific questions to. Occasionally I had issues/questions about things that interns specifically had to accomplish, so my coworkers were not able to provide much guidance since they were not going through the process themselves.

Advice

Be sure to embrace the opportunity and know that everyone in the entire company is there to help you. Never be afraid to ask questions because everyone understands that you are just starting out and they were once in your shoes. If you work hard everyday, build relationships with the people in the office, and produce good work, you should receive a full-time offer.

What I liked

I liked how interns were given the respect and responsibilities of full time employees.

What I wish was different

I wish that each intern at my office was given more similar workloads. Some interns had significant time unassigned in the office, while others were being required to work overtime at their assigned clients.

Advice
